Safety has always been a major priority for Honda, and the advanced Honda Sensing system is installed in your vehicle. It consists of several systems that work to make your time behind the wheel safer than ever. Additional safety features are available, depending on your model, to provide even more protection. Let’s look at some of the Honda safety features available in every Honda.
Exploring the Honda Safety Features That Make Driving Safer
Honda integrates advanced safety features across its lineup, ensuring peace of mind for you and your passengers. From maintaining your lane to avoiding collisions, Honda’s state-of-the-art technology makes driving safer and smarter. Below, we explore some of the key safety features that come standard or are available in many of our models, including the Honda Accord, CR-V, Pilot, and Civic.
Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS)
LKAS uses a forward camera to detect the white lines on the road. It then works continually to keep your Honda centered in its lane. If the system detects you’re moving into another lane and a direction indicator isn’t active, it provides visual and audio alerts. It will also turn the wheel to direct you back into the lane if you don’t take action.
Road Departure Mitigation System (RDMS)
RDMS is similar to LKAS except it watches for road boundary lines. It’s possible to cross these lines accidentally, especially at night or if you’re distracted or tired. This feature will instantly provide warning beeps to alert you that you’re leaving the road. If you don’t respond fast enough, it will automatically engage emergency braking to prevent a potential accident.
Traffic Signal Recognition (TSR)
TSR uses a small forward-looking camera to scan for posted signs like speed limits and other warnings. It then displays an icon of the sign on your screen so you can decide if you need to take action, for example reducing your speed.
Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS)
Your Honda has a camera and radar that watch the road ahead for any vehicles. If a vehicle is detected, the system computes its speed, compares it to the speed of your vehicle, and determines if a potential accident is likely. Audio and visual warnings are given if the system determines an accident is possible.
If you’re unable to react in time, CMBS will automatically apply hard braking to prevent the accident or reduce its impact.
Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)
ACC is an advanced version of cruise control. You can set a speed before you activate cruise control, and your vehicle will continue to maintain that speed without intervention. You can also set a following distance between your Honda and any vehicle ahead of you. Radar will monitor any vehicle in front, and ACC will slow your car to maintain the preset following distance if necessary.
Additional Safety Features
There are many other Honda safety systems including Cross Traffic Monitor, Blind Spot Information System, and Auto High-Beam Headlights. These systems may be already active on your Honda or are available.
